1st International Conference Don't miss it!

The INTE-TRANSIT consortium is inviting you to its 1st International conference focusing on “ICT technologies as enablers for improved operations in modern MED ports”, that will be held on November 20th and 21st, 2014 at the Port Authority of Valencia, Spain.

By attending this conference, you will be able to network with project partners, discover the State of the Art on ICT tools used for modernisation of port logistics, the challenges that MED ports currently phasing, as well as the INTE-TRANSIT developments and ICT solutions towards the creation of an integrated management model to improve container monitoring and to modernise the organisation of the MED ports logistic areas. In parallel, a demo and poster session will take place, showcasing the project evolutions and technologies and other related activities.

This is a first 'Save the Date' invitation for every interested person. Participants may include port authorities and operators, freight forwarders, Shipping and Logistic Companies, Shipping/Container Lines, Transporters, Consultants and Maritime Organizations etc.

INTE-TRANSIT 2nd Training Workshop

 

Improvement of MED ports transit capacities through multimodality and intermodality. Towards a more efficient organization of ports logistic activities”

After the successful organisation of its 1st Training workshop in Seville in November 2013, the INTE-TRANSIT consortium is pleased to invite you to the 2nd training activity of the project that will take place in Naples, Italy, on 13-14 May 2014.

 The INTE-TRANSIT project is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the MED Programme and aims to support the better logistics organization of MED ports and logistics areas through the use of modern ICT technologies and to establish a framework for cooperation between stakeholders in the Mediterranean countries for the exchange of best practices, cooperation and personnel training.

            During this 2nd training event, organised by CO.NA.TE.CO S.P.A. with the support of IAT and SEAbility, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more on the following issues:

  • Improvement of MED ports transit capacities through multimodality and intermodality;
  • The ICT role in an efficient and sustainable logistics organization for maritime transport.
  • Contribution of logistics organizations towards the improvement of transit capacities in maritime freight transport.
  • Emerging ICT protocols and software tools that support logistics organization and activities.
  • Identification of logistics procedures that would benefit from the deployment of state of the art ICT systems and proposed improvements.

In the framework of this two days event, innovative and future solutions as well as practical examples and best practices will be presented by experts coming from experienced and well-known companies and organisations including CO.NA.TE.CO. Spa, Port of Koper, Valenciaport Foundation, Andalusian Public Ports Authority. In addition to the training sessions, a visit in the port of Naples will be organised where the logistics operation of the specific port as well as the proposed INTE-TRANSIT solutions will be demonstrated to the attendees.

INTE-TRANSIT Press Release

INTE-TRANSIT has successfully organised its 1st Training Activity on 6-7 November 2013, in Seville. The INTE-TRANSIT project, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the MED Programme, aims to a better logistics organization of MED ports and logistics areas through the use of modern ICT technologies and to establish a framework for cooperation between stakeholders in the Mediterranean countries for the exchange of best practicescooperation and personnel training.

The 1st Training session was hosted and organised by the IAT with the active support by SEAbility, responsible for all dissemination activities and training. Approximately 50 stakeholders participated in this event, including management and administrative staff of ports, general professionals of port authorities and/or logistics activity areas bound to maritime ports as well as logistics companies and members of the project Consortium. In the framework of the 1st INTE-TRANSIT Training Activity, participants explored and gained more in-depth knowledge about different technologies such as RFID, OCR, Port Management Systems, etc., through technical presentations and discussions.

More specifically, the topics addressed during this 1st Training Session entitled: " ICT solutions oriented towards the monitoring and positioning of containers and ro – ro: Container logistics using modern ICT technologies” were the following:

  • Container-driven developments in modern shipping and port operations & logistics. Implementation of ICT solutions and lessons learned.
  • Description of port operations and challenges resulting from thick stacking and automated procedures.
  • Containers and yard equipment monitoring and positioning.
  • Information and management systems for port and logistics operations and how they are addressing the issue of system integration.
  • Modelling and simulation techniques and how they can improve efficiency; description of the VSM methodology.

The trainers were experts coming from experienced and well-known companies and organisations including SEAbility Ltd., the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), the Piraeus Container Terminal SA (PCT) and the Andalusian Institute of Technology (IAT).  In addition, trainees had the opportunity to experience different technologies, in the framework of a virtual technology lab that was organised in parallel, with the kind contribution of relevant companies and research institutes such as AT4 Wireless, Telvent Transportation, TRANSKAL, IAT- Esfera and ICCS.

This event was the first of a series of training activities that will be organised during 2014 and 2015 in Naples, Algeciras, Valencia and Athens.

The INTE-TRANSIT consortium cordially invites you to participate at its 4th Training Workshop on “New technologies in ports for the optimisation of the security, safety and the impact in the environment: competitiveness and sustainability. Real cases & pilots in the INTE-TRANSIT project” to be held in Algeciras, Spain, on 11-12 March 2015.

INTE-TRANSIT is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the MED Programme and aims to support the better logistics organization of MED ports and logistics areas through the use of modern ICT technologies and to establish a framework for cooperation between stakeholders in the Mediterranean countries for the exchange of best practices, cooperation and personnel training.

 During this 4th training session the attendees will be able to learn more on the following topics:

  • How the implementation and integration of new technologies contribute to the competitiveness and sustainability in ports.
  • How new technologies contribute to ensure the security, safety and the minimum impact on the environment.
  • How new technologies in the operations, developed by various stakeholders in ports (border inspections or customs operations, optimisation of the carriers, logistics operators, etc.), ensure the security, safety competitiveness and sustainability in general.
  • Know real cases in ports: how they were planned, carried out and monitored.
  • Know the relationship of competitiveness, security, safety and impact on the environment in the framework of the INTE TRANSIT pilots as well as future opportunities for development.

The trainers areexperienced experts coming and well-known companies and organisations as APPA, IAT, SEAbility, CONATECO, Bahía de Algeciras Port, Actual IT and SICE.

ICT solutions oriented monitoring and positioning of containers and ro-ro. Container logistics using modern ICT technologies

The INTE-TRANSIT project, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the MED Programme framework, aims to a better logistics organization of MED ports and logistics areas through the use of modern ICT technologies and to establish a framework for cooperation between stakeholders in the Mediterranean countries for the exchange of best practices, cooperation and personnel training.

Among the foreseen activities in INTE-TRANSIT a training framework for ports and their associated logistics areas is included. The first of the five (5) planned training activities will take place in Seville at 6-7 November2013, organised by IAT. Other training activities will be organized during 2014 and 2015 in Naples, Algeciras, Valencia and Athens.

This first training session is aiming to a wide audience including management and administrative staff of ports, general professionals of port authorities and/or logistics activity areas bounded to maritime ports as well as logistics companies.

The training will address among other things the following:

  • Container-driven developments in modern shipping and port operations & logistics. How ICT solutions are implemented and lessons learned.
  • Description of port operations and challenges resulting from thick stacking and automated procedures
  • Containers and yard equipment monitoring and positioning.
  • Information and management systems for port & logistics operations and how they are addressing the issue of system integration.
  • Modelling and simulation techniques and how they can improve efficiency; description of the VSM methodology

The trainers are experts coming from experienced and well-known companies and organisations including SEAbility Ltd., the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), the Piraeus Container Terminal SA (PCT) and the Andalusian Institute of Technology (IAT).

Since INTE-TRANSIT is a project aiming at significant technological and innovative developments, the related training sessions will have a twofold interest: they will present both innovative and future solutions but also practical examples and best cases from existing applications. In addition to the presentations and to the discussions to be organised, trainees will have the opportunity to explore different technologies, in the framework of a virtual technology lab that will include demos presented by well known suppliers.

INTE-TRANSIT Technical meeting and exchange visit in the port of Piraeus, 2 July 2013

On the 2nd of July PCT hosted a meeting for the Group Pilot A members seeking to establish a common understanding for the pilot requirements. In this meeting project coordinator, ICCS, has been also participated. PCT presented the conceptual design and the system architecture of the pilot. The infrastructure of all three participating partners was discussed (PCT, NOATUM Terminal and Port of Koper) and the applicability of the pilot was verified.

It was agreed that the pilot would be based on the following technologies:

  • DGPS for tracking the location of containers and yard equipment
  • RFID for the identification of containers
  • GIS for the visualization of container yards

After the discussion for the Group Pilot A, a tour at PCT premises was offered to the participants of the meeting. The tour started at the main building and the control tower where the yard and vessel planning processes were described. The container yard was visited next were the participants had a chance to see real operations. The new Pier III that was inaugurated on June 2013, was visited where the members of the pilot had a chance to see tandem operations on the new quay cranes.

The meeting concluded with the discussion of the next steps required before the start of the implementation of the pilot.

INTE-TRANSIT Kick off meeting, 17-18 January 2013

The INTE-TRANSIT project, co-funded by the EU MED Programme, was launched in January 2013. The consortium Kick-off meeting took place at the premises of the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems in Athens, Greece, on 17-18 January 2013. The Project coordinator, Dr. Angelos Amditis welcome the 18 participants that represented the 8 consortium partners and presented the project overall scope and objectives as well as the basic organizational and financial structure. Following this the partners presented themselves and their aspirations relevant to the project (their role in the project, main contribution, state of the art of their technology). All aspects regarding administrative issues, financial issues and work planning broken down in the work packages were thoroughly examined and discussed during this two days meeting in order for the consortium to start its work and cooperation from a solid basis.

INTE-TRANSIT a new MED Programme has started!!

INTE-TRANSIT, is a project co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the MED programme that launched its activities in January 2013 with the organisation of the consortium kick-off meeting that was held in Athens, Greece and hosted by the project coordinator, the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (http://i-sense.iccs.gr).

The basic objective of INTE-TRANSIT is to enhance information management systems currently used in ports and in their logistic activities areas through the definition of an integrated management model involving public and private organizations and devising a common and harmonized Mediterranean processes and indicators map. INTE-TRANSIT will also promote an ICT solution towards monitoring and positioning of port containers improving traceability, visibility and transparency of transport of goods in the MED.
