Seability as member of the SafePASS consortium participated in the two-days Safety Drill, on the Royal Caribbean “Jewel of Seas” Cruise Ship, on the 23rd November in the area of Civitavecchia, Italy and on the 24th in the area of Naples, Italy.
During the 1st day, SafePASS representatives participated in the Pre Departure Safety Training and Guest Training, conducted in the “Jewel of the Seas” cruise ship by RCCL in Civitavecchia, Italy. During the 2nd day, the team had the chance to take part in the Crew Drill and Marine Evacuation System Training as well as to get the required feedback through structured interviews/questionnaires, from selected crew members, with regards to the following topics:
- Mission and operational requirements of cruise ships in evacuation scenarios
- Evacuation drill and training process (crew and passenger drills)
- Lifesaving appliances and Personal Safety equipment; existing systems and needs
- Passenger needs and societal aspects
The information gathered will serve as input to the research conducted in the design, implementation and testing of the SafePASS system and in the set-up of the SafePASS community of practices, towards fulfiling the aim of the SafePASS project, which is the redefinition of the evacuation processes, systems and international standards for passenger ships via the development innovative systems.
